Probability and Odds
Probability and Odds are a key concept of Limit Holdem poker. You have to know when it is favourable to call a bet or when it is not.
First we have to define some terms:
Probability:
Probability is the fact how many times an event will happen.
Example: Every 17 hands (or 5.88% of the time) you can expect to be dealt a pocket pair long-term. It doesn't mean that every 17th hand exactly will be a pocket pair.
It means that when you play for 100.000 about 5.880 hands will be pocket pairs on average. In some sessions this number can be higher and in some sessions it can be
lower.
Odds:
Odds are telling us how many times an event will not happen.
In our example above the odds are 16 to 1 against being dealt a pocket pair. |
